Why Use a Sector Heatmap?
Instant Market Overview
See the entire US market at a glance — instantly understand which sectors are leading or lagging without scanning hundreds of individual tickers.
Identify Sector Rotation
Money constantly flows from one sector to another. The heatmap reveals where institutional money is moving in real time, helping you stay on the right side of the flow.
Spot Outliers Quickly
Large bright green or red blocks within a mostly neutral sector stand out immediately — alerting you to unusual single-stock moves worth investigating.
Market Breadth Analysis
When most sectors are red but one stays green, that sector is showing relative strength — a key signal used by professional traders to find defensive or momentum plays.
Reduce Research Time
Instead of reading through multiple pages of data, the heatmap compresses thousands of data points into a single visual, saving you significant time.
Sector Trading Tips
Trade with the Strongest Sector
Buy stocks within the greenest sector of the day. Stocks in a strong sector have tailwinds — even average stocks in a hot sector tend to outperform great stocks in a weak one.
Fade the Weakest Sector
For put options or short positions, look to the weakest (darkest red) sector. Sector-wide selling pressure makes bearish plays more likely to succeed.
Use Sector Rotation as a Signal
When defensive sectors (Utilities, Consumer Staples, Health Care) outperform, the market may be signaling risk-off sentiment. When cyclicals (Tech, Financials) lead, risk-on momentum is in play.
Confirm with Relative Strength
Find the top 2-3 strongest stocks within the leading sector — these often provide the best risk/reward entries during trend days.
Watch for Divergence
If a sector is broadly green but one large-cap block is deep red, that stock may be reacting to earnings or news — a potential high-conviction trade opportunity.
Combine with the Economic Cycle
Different sectors lead at different points in the economic cycle. Energy and Materials lead early recoveries; Tech and Discretionary dominate mid-cycle; Utilities and Staples hold up in downturns.
